Is a dog breeder a hobby or a business?

In our time, dog breeding has become very popular. Some start a dog from loneliness, others for the sake of prestige, others for the money that they hope to get from puppies. But of all dog breeders, 10% become breeders on the strength, and even less serious and famous. So who are these breeders, and how do they differ from other dog breeders?

How dog breeding is becoming a hobby.
Once a dog of a certain breed comes to a person and becomes for him something more than just a dog. He feels her soul, and this feeling is somewhat reminiscent of love. With this dog, they go to training sites, to exhibitions and competitions, to hikes, and sometimes they end up in different situations that can be discussed with like-minded people – owners of the same breed of dogs. The owner of another breed may not understand the piquancy, irony or drama in the story told, and not the dog breeder – even more so.

Over time, such communication with like-minded people becomes a part of life – joint walks, training, trips to exhibitions no longer seem to be something complicated, but bring the joy of communication. And dog breeders, like all enthusiastic people, share in their circle the joys of victory and the sorrows of defeat, share problems and look for ways to solve them.

For such keen people, dog breeding is growing into a hobby category. They no longer need to walk with their dog around the house and cuddle on their couch. They need to share achievements and share the joy of victories with their former competitors. For this, it is not a pity for time and money to travel to another country for an exhibition or competition – after all, there are like-minded people for whom their dogs of the same breed also became a part of their life, in their souls the dogs also lit that spark of unity and understanding.

How to become breeders.
Almost every owner of a thoroughbred dog sooner or later thinks: “But do not tie my dog to me?” This thought comes to one, because they were told “it is necessary for health”, others just want to have kids, and still others think that you can earn money from dog breeding. And only passionate people for whom the dog is already part of life plan to mate their dogs not for themselves, but for future generations. They will not knit their dog from a neighbor of the same breed, but will go to the manufacturer who has been closely watched at exhibitions or competitions, who is as close as possible to the breed’s ideal, in the view of this future breeder. Such people will not be stopped by distances and borders, time and costs – they are attracted by the path to ideal, they dream in their future puppies to see all the pedigree virtues of the character and exterior of their dog and the selected manufacturer, and if possible increase them.

The birth of a breeder.
And so it happened – the first puppies were born and grow up! Behind the difficulties of the trip, difficulties in mating, anxiety during the dog’s pregnancy. Puppies were born! Sleepless nights begin – as if a tired mother would not crush a newborn puppy, weigh each baby – whether she is gaining good weight, searching for the most suitable food for mom and kids, prophylactic deworming medications, vaccines for all canine diseases – puppies should be healthy. Forces, time, finances at such a time go to the back of consciousness – they simply have no time to think about them.

A month passes, the puppies are already running, playing, trying on the tooth everything that catches their eye, sometimes disabling furniture and recently made repairs in the house. Diapers on the floor, rags for cleaning, toys for puppies, feeding 6 times a day – these are all the breeder’s daily routines. Not everyone can do it – some already at this stage are eliminated from future breeders, and born puppies in their house become the first and last.

But there are also people who are keen on dog breeding, who already in newborn puppies see how much their dream has been successful in continuing pedigree breeding and maintaining the best pedigree traits. They were not frightened by all the difficulties and costs, and thoughts are already occupied with what these puppies will grow up, which hands they will fall into and whom to pick up in pairs with these babies when they grow up. They will surely leave the best puppies from the older puppies for further breeding for themselves, and they will not sell the rest to those who pay more, but to those who guarantee further work in improving the breed – they will participate in exhibitions, train, and go to competitions. And getting rich on the sale of puppies doesn’t work out well, except that part of the investment cost for mating, travel, food and vaccines can pay off. And if after the sale of the puppies the person realizes that the invested funds, effort and time did not bring any income, and the desire to continue to breed the dogs remains, then it is safe to say – the breeder was born!

Maturity of the breeder.
The factory prefix is already issued, the name of the nursery is registered in all organizations according to all the rules. This name of the nursery already sounds at exhibitions and competitions and is heard by all like-minded people – the same breeders.
